The short version
A ChatGPT Ads daily budget is an average over a seven-day period, not a strict per-day cap. OpenAI says daily spend can reach twice the budget on an individual day, while the seven-day limit is seven times the budget. The week runs Sunday to Saturday in the ad account’s timezone.
For a PKR 2,100 daily budget held unchanged for a full week, the current rules work out to a maximum of PKR 4,200 in one day and PKR 14,700 across seven days. These are limits, not a forecast that the campaign will spend the full amount.
How daily-budget pacing works
| Rule | What it means |
|---|---|
| Seven-day average | Your daily budget is the average amount you want to spend per day over the Sunday–Saturday account week. |
| Daily maximum | Spend on one day may reach twice the selected daily budget. |
| Weekly maximum | Spend across the applicable seven-day period may not exceed seven times the daily budget, subject to prorating when you change it. |
| Uneven delivery | A campaign can spend more on some days and less on others. Unused amounts may be used later in the same week. |
Ads Manager displays the applicable limits in the campaign builder. Use those values for your account, especially if you adjust a budget mid-week.
What happens when you change the daily budget?
If you change the amount during a day, OpenAI says that day’s maximum is based on the highest daily budget active at any point that day. The seven-day limit is prorated from the latest change through the next Sunday at midnight in the account’s timezone; it does not simply start a fresh seven-day allowance.
Because the calculation depends on the precise change time, budget history and timezone, use the figures Ads Manager displays rather than estimating your own prorated cap. A higher setting can increase the remaining allowance, but it does not guarantee more delivery.
How campaign-total budgets work
A campaign-total budget is a ceiling for the campaign’s scheduled run. Ads Manager uses the remaining budget and schedule to guide spending over time. Delivery may slow when a campaign is ahead of pace or continue when it is behind, but OpenAI says pacing does not guarantee equal spend, full budget use or that money lasts until the end date.
An end date helps the pacing system reflect your intended schedule. OpenAI says a campaign-total budget with an end date uses the time until that date, up to 365 days; without one, the default pacing window is 60 days. These windows guide pacing—they are not delivery guarantees.
Why Ads Manager may reject a lower daily budget
With fixed bidding, OpenAI says the daily budget may need to be at least as high as the highest effective per-event bid across applicable ad groups, including relevant audience adjustments. This specific bid-related constraint does not apply to automated bidding or campaign-total-budget campaigns. If the field blocks a lower amount, check the active bid and adjustments in the account before changing the budget.
The platform’s minimum daily budget is a separate rule. OpenAI’s table listed PKR 2,100 for PKR-billed accounts when checked on 27 October 2026. Confirm the current amount shown in your own campaign builder; do not treat the minimum as a recommended spend.
Choose a budget type
| Daily budget | Campaign-total budget |
|---|---|
| An average amount per day over the account’s seven-day week | A campaign-wide spend ceiling over its schedule |
| Useful when monitoring delivery and adjusting a first test | Useful when a fixed campaign amount and schedule matter |
| Daily delivery may fluctuate within the published limits | Pacing can change with the remaining budget and end date |
| Changes can prorate the current week | OpenAI says some budget-type changes cannot be reversed in place |
OpenAI recommends starting with a daily budget if you are new and want to monitor delivery before committing a campaign-total amount. Check the current interface because supported changes can vary.
Common pacing mistakes
- Reading the daily amount as a hard limit for each calendar day.
- Assuming all seven times the daily budget will be spent; pacing is a ceiling, not a spend promise.
- Raising the amount and expecting the full new allowance to apply retroactively to earlier days in the week.
- Leaving a campaign-total budget without an end date when you need pacing to match a shorter campaign schedule.
- Expecting a bid change to override a campaign-total budget’s pacing. OpenAI says bid strategy does not override that pacing system.
Quick answers
Can daily spend exceed my selected daily budget?
Yes. Under the current OpenAI rule, one day can reach twice the selected daily budget. The applicable seven-day limit is seven times that budget, with prorating when it changes.
Will a campaign spend its full campaign-total budget by the end date?
Not necessarily. The end date is the latest date it can deliver, but pacing does not guarantee that the budget will last until that date or be fully spent.
What if I change the daily amount mid-week?
OpenAI prorates the seven-day limit from the latest change through the next Sunday at midnight in the account’s timezone. Check the displayed limit in Ads Manager.
Why is the campaign-total pacing window 60 days?
OpenAI says a campaign-total budget without an end date uses a default 60-day pacing period. Add an end date if you want pacing aligned to a specific schedule.
Does Pakistan’s PKR 2,100 minimum mean I should spend PKR 2,100 daily?
No. It was the platform’s listed minimum for PKR billing when checked on 27 October 2026. It is not a recommended budget or a guarantee of traffic or conversions.
